Casper Mattress Review Outline
We have plenty to say about the Casper Mattress, as it’s one of the most popular online bed-in-a-box brands on the internet. You might’ve even seen a Costco Casper mattress or walked past the brand’s products in your local Target. Casper is partly responsible for bringing online mattress shopping to the mainstream. They offer three different beds, but this Casper Mattress review will focus on their flagship bed. Our mattress reviews tend to be lengthy, so in order to make it quick for you to get where you want to go, below is a list of jump links to take you to any section of this review.

Though, you should always remember that your body type will affect how you experience the firmness of a mattress. In simple terms, the heavier you are, the softer it will feel and vice versa.
Soft Foam Feel
For some folks, that’s great because they don’t like the feeling of being sucked into the mattress. For other folks, that may be disappointing because they enjoy that stereotypical memory foam feel.
With all-foam beds, we often find that the responsiveness is on the slower side because the mattress doesn’t have any coils to assist with the bounce-back. The Casper, however, responds relatively quickly #42cb75to pressure despite being all-foam. People who switch positions during the night won’t have any trouble turning over and won’t leave a sunken spot behind when they do.
- Support foam – This is the base layer that creates the support system for the mattress.
- Memory foam – The middle layer is a zoned layer of memory foam, which means there are more supportive pieces in certain targeted areas, like the middle section where a sleeper’s hips and trunk would be. The Casper Wave Hybrid mattress has a zoned support framework as well.
- Open-cell foam– This top layer is perforated to pull in airflow (Casper calls this AirScape).
Altogether, you get ~11” of memory, poly, and proprietary foam. Casper’s proprietary foam contributes to the overall soft neutral-foam feel of the bed.
All of the foams in the Casper mattress are approved by the CertiPUR-US program, which means they have low VOC, are made without ozone depleters and are not harmful to you or the environment.
“Zoned” layers are becoming more popular in the industry. If a layer is described as “zoned”, that means it’s more supportive in certain targeted areas, like the middle section where a sleeper’s hips and trunk would be. The Casper Wave Hybrid mattress has a zoned support framework as well, albeit it’s more much advanced.
If you do need to deal with a spill or stain, you can spot clean it. In the case that you’re especially concerned about getting a thorough clean—like if you suffer from awful allergies that require bi-weekly deep cleans of all your linens—you can add a mattress protector, like one of these from Amazon. Just know that, depending on the thickness and material of the protector, it may stifle airflow through the mattress and might affect the surface feel a bit.
You might want to rotate the mattress 180° every 3-6 months or so if you share your bed with a partner whose body weight is significantly different than your own. Rotating the bed will help the mattress wear more evenly over time.
We do think Casper is a good pick for couples. For one, this bed has decent edge support, meaning you aren’t going to get too much of that roll-off feeling if you happen to find yourself near the edge of the mattress.
In our opinion, the Casper bed does not sleep hot, but it doesn’t sleep cool either. This bed is what we call temperature neutral, which is the case for most beds you can buy online. The new AirScape design on the comfort foam does help with airflow, but not enough to call it a cooling bed.
Even so, for most people, we think Casper will be fine in the temperature-regulation department. We can’t imagine many people complaining about overheating on the Original Casper mattress.
SLEEP POSITION
SIDE SLEEPERS
Most side sleepers should feel comfortable on this mattress, with the exception of more petite people. Because petite people don’t sink into the mattress much, side sleepers who are petite might find this mattress too firm.
BACK AND STOMACH SLEEPERS
We’ve found that even though Casper isn’t a particularly firm bed, the combination of various foam densities and its zoned design make it more supportive than you might expect.
COMBO SLEEPERS
Because the bed isn’t overly firm and the mattress is essentially split into different zones, these types of sleepers will get the pressure they need for key areas.

OVERALL PRICE RATING | $$$ | How we rate mattresses |
- Casper mattress reviews on Amazon: Most Casper reviews have more than four out of five stars on Amazon, and customers say the mattresses are great for neck and back pain.
- Casper mattress reviews on Reddit: Reviews of Casper mattress on Reddit reveal that the mattresses can take a while to get used to, but they’re comfortable after an initial adjustment period.
This is the high-end mattress that also has the Zoned Support System but to a larger extent. The Wave is thicker and feels a little more buoyant compared to the original mattress since it has a layer of latex foam. This the mattress that Casper created for people with back pain or other health issues. It costs more than the original mattress, but if you’re not on a strict budget, it might be worth your consideration. It’s basically the older brother to the original mattress. Check out our Casper Wave vs. Casper comparison.
This is the company’s softest mattress on the market right now. Here’s a link to our Casper Nova vs. Casper comparison.
To compete with lower price point cheap beds, Casper Sleep launched the Element. It’s the simplest (and most affordable) mattress Casper sells. It feels similar to the original in that it’s neutral and comfortable, but there’s not a true signature feel. This is the mattress for guest rooms, college students, kids, teens, etc. There’s plenty of good things to say about the Casper Element mattress, but the best part (at least when compared to the other two) is the price.

Once you’ve removed the packaging and your bed starts to decompress, it’s a good idea to let it sit out for about a full day. This allows it adequate time to fully decompress and off-gas.
